Helen has worked with orchestras including the BBC Philharmonic (with whom she has performed live on BBC One and BBC Radio 3), BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, Iceland Symphony Orchestra, Västerås Sinfonietta, Manchester Camerata, Stockholm Sinfonietta, Östgötamusiken, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Multi-Story Orchestra and the European Union Youth Orchestra.

She was accepted into the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic Orchestra’s Academy in 2017, and worked extensively with the orchestra during this time.

Previously, she completed her studies at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Royal College of Music in London, supported by generous postgraduate scholarships from Help Musicians UK and the Countess of Munster Musical Trust.

Immediately after graduating, she joined the Southbank Sinfonia as Joint Principal Oboe for the 2015 season, and subsequently appeared on stage in the National Theatre/Southbank Sinfonia’s critically acclaimed revival of Peter Shaffer’s Amadeus.

As a soloist, Helen has performed Aaron Copland’s Quiet City for cor anglais with conductor John Wilson and Marcello’s Oboe Concerto with Sir Antonio Pappano, both alongside the Southbank Sinfonia. She was selected as a finalist in the RNCM’s prestigious Gold Medal competition during her time at college, and was a winner of both the RCM and RNCM’s Oboe Prizes.

With her chamber group, the Aquillo Reed Trio, she reached the finals of the Royal Over-Seas League music competition, and enjoyed arranging and commissioning new works for this ensemble for regular recitals throughout the UK.
